Characterization, Chemical Compounds and Biological Activities of Marrubium vulgare L. Essential Oil

As consumer trends shift towards more natural and ecological consumption patterns, industrialists are actively working substituting synthetic chemicals with vegan products that contain bioactive properties. Thus, considering the shifts in customer demand growing concern around vegetable sourced productions, this work aims to contribute valorization of aromatic medicinal Moroccan plants. By focusing on Marrubium vulgare L. species, our objective is carry out a physicochemical characterization determine its chemical composition biological activities. The volatile fraction collected by hydrodistillation (0.61%) analyzed GC-MS (gas chromatography coupled mass spectrometry) contains five main compounds: 3-Thujanone, Eugenol, Topanol, Menthone Piperitone. antioxidant activity has been estimated applying DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging test ferric reducing power (FRAP). values inhibitory concentration prove oil good antioxidant, IC50 = 1.136 mg/mL 2.998 mg/mL, respectively, for FRAP tests. results antifungal indicate significant inhibition mycelial growth both tested molds, as well total spore production at 0.25 µL/mL.
